Limpho Mochone, one of the top female DJs in Lesotho better known by her stage name DJ Lym, has been perfecting her craft as a DJ for about eight years.

DJ Lym told Newsday this week that she has launched lessons that allow her to share her knowledge with future generations of female DJs.

“This idea was brought about or influenced by the number of requests and messages of people, especially females, who always ask me to teach them to DJ,” she said.

She has been in the industry for quite some time and believes she has acquired skills that she thinks every DJ should master for a successful DJing career.

“I started my journey of disc jockeying in 2014. I have always liked music from a very young age and I haven’t stopped since then. I am a mainstream DJ, I play mostly amapiano,” she said on Wednesday.

Since 2014 when she started, DJ Lym said she has become a nationally recognised DJ having played on big stages with big names and becoming a resident DJ at one top night clubs in the country, Club 266.

“I have learned a lot and I have grown so much. From being an aspiring DJ who went to the Vodacom Lesotho Superstars in 2014 with no clue whatsoever about DJing with CDJs. Now I have started giving DJ lessons,” she said.

Basic mixing techniques, equalizing, and music selection are some of the skills she teaches and she also offers practice sessions.

Mochone also emphasized that it was about time people started taking or being serious about arts as a career or business.

“I wish the government could be as much invested in it as it is in other industries. This is not a game, I am not doing it just for fun, I have actually achieved a lot by being a DJ,” she said.

Born in 1996 in Berea, DJ Lym graduated from the National University of Lesotho (NUL) in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and development studies.
