Thapelo Sellane famously known as Dj Shaker from Leribe escaped death by a whisker when he was involved in a head-on collision last Tuesday in just outside Tsikoane, enroute to Ha Ben along the Main North 1 road in Leribe.

The 27-year-old Maputsoe born Dj was lucky to have escaped the accident with no serious injuries and no loss of life despite both vehicles being badly damaged.

Shaker told this publication that he collided with someone who attempted to overtake unduly.

“It all happened so fast and I could not avoid the collision despite all my efforts. The oncoming car which was overtaking a third one rammed my car which overturned.

“I thank God that I am still alive and well and can still continue doing what I love. I was a bit scared for the person I was with in the car when the accident happened because unlike me they sustained a few injuries but they are okay now,” Shaker said.

This is not the first accident that Shaker has been involved in.  A few years back he was involved in another collision in Hlotse and still miraculously escaped with no injuries.

The vehicle did not only serve as a transport for his sound hire business but was also a school bus during the week and also a marketing tool.

“I used this vehicle for many things, number one being my sound hire business where I would deliver the sound with it, then used it as school bus as well.

“Considering the impact of Covid-19 on us Djs and entertainers, when something like this happens it adds to my struggles but I am still grateful that I survived, hopefully I will manage to get it fixed so I can work again” he said.

Dj Shaker is one of the favourites in the Djaying business in the North, featuring in most of the highlight gigs of Leribe and neighbouring places.
