A Qacha’s Nek born and raised multitalented artiste and DJ, Lerotholi Phatela, known by his stage name El Patel is bringing his one man show, the first of its kind by any DJ in Lesotho.

The event will be held at Backyard@Lynors in Khubetsoana, Maseru on Sunday May 2, 2021.

In an interview with Newsday Arts El Patel said he thought of the show when he realised that he was not really known by as many people as he would have like to, and believes this show would put his name out there.

El Patel started DJing back in 2017 shortly after he stooped rapping.

“I have been a DJ for a while now and I realised that some people know me, but they are not aware that I am actually a DJ, and a good one for that matter. So, I thought the one man show would be a perfect way to re-introduce myself,” the artiste said.

He indicated that during the show, he would be playing different genres for eight hours straight, while in between, there would be some performances featured by some of the country’s most talented musicians.

The DJ mentioned that he decided to have on the line up, Lemeke Oa Mochini who recently dropped an album titled Moshemane Oa Holibona, Nthabiseng who has also just dropped an album titled Mocholoko, Lu Srenk as well as Snizz all whom he says have been working hard and staying relevant despite the harsh challenges brought by Covid-19.

“I decided to feature those performers because of their work despite the challenges of Covid-19, and if you look at them, they have been dropping music or full projects despite the challenges that we have,” he said.

He stated that the aim of the show is to give people a taste of who El Patel is musically, the type of music he can play and his ability to create different moods.

El Patel added that his has a dream to see this being a quarterly event that would spread throughout the entire country.

“My dream is to have the event as a quarterly revelry and to see it being hosted throughout the whole country, maybe doing district tours collaborating with artists from those districts as well,” he said.

The Elevate hit maker is not just a club DJ but also does music compilations and promotes a lot of upcoming musicians having established himself as one of the first DJs in Lesotho to play sets that consists mostly of local songs.

On the event he is working with his manger and is also partnering with the venue hosting the events.
