The tourism industry in Lesotho makes up to 16.2% of the GDP in the country. Lesotho Tourism Development Cooperation (LTDC) has started an initiative to help start and boost local places of attraction through an outreach to get a hold of places of attraction in local villages.

In their attempt to help boost the Haramokoatsi Villagers to improve the livelihoods of the locals, LTDC has donated money amounting to M8575.00 to help boost the Haramokoatsi locals.

“Tourism industry is one of the many industries that have taken a hard knock because of the covid19 pandemic, but we are the ones who have suffered most” explained Nqheku Matolo, the LTDC Tourism Manager.

Despite the hardships the country is still facing in regards to the Covd-19 pandemic, LTDC still gives 10% of all the profits made by the Haramokoatsi Park back to the locals.

The Haramokoatsi Park has a legally established Committee that runs the daily functioning of the park chosen by the local people.

“We have a shortage of water in our village, and having received this money from LTDC has been a huge help to us, “ explained Khomo-Peli Ramokoatsi, the acting chief of the village.

Ramokoatsi went on to explain that the money given by LTDC was intended to help them install water taps in their village.

However the villagers expressed their gratitude towards LTDC saying their lives had changed since the arrival of the cooperation in their village. And hoped to keep good relations.

“We would love the cooperation to further help us locate other places of interest within our village” said a local, Puleng Ramokoatsi.

Other places of tourism interest in the village include bushmen’s caves and the famous mountain that is called “Thaba ea Qalabane) where a war had taken place in the olden times.
