Morija police arrested three men in connection with sexually assaulting a woman aged 42 years. Police reports state that on July 29th 2021 the victim was on her way from the ceremony in Matsieng then on her way back she was ambushed by a man who dragged her into the forest where two other men were waiting.
The suspects are men aged 46 years, 44 years and 47 years from Makoabati in Matsieng. It is further reported that the suspects sexually assaulted the woman until the morning and also stabbed her. She was admitted at the hospital until she was discharged then filed a case afterwards. On July 30th 2021 the first suspect was arrested then the two were arrested on August 1st 2021 and they will appear before court as soon as investigations have been completed.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli, stated that an old man aged 70 years from Mohale’s Hoek appeared before the district magistrate on July 26th 2021 charged of sexual assault on a minor aged 8 years. The court granted him M1 000.00 bail which he paid then on July 28th he appeared again on charges of sexual assault on a minor aged 12 years old. The court still granted him M2 000.00 bail and M3 000.00 surety which he failed to pay and he is still in custody awaiting to appear before the magistrate.
The report indicates that the suspect has a leg disability also uses crouches to walk and he usually calls his neighbour’s children to help him fetch water. It is also said that when the children return with water, he invites them inside the house then sexually assault them threatening to kill them if they report him. The 8 years old child reported the incident after being asked what took her so long to return home after fetching water, and then she told her parents everything that happened.
In Mafeteng, a Mosotho man aged 46 from Makhoaneng in Leribe who lives at Ha-Ramokhele handed himself to the police on July 30th 2021 in suspicions of a murder of a woman between the ages of 35 and 40. The report indicates that on July 29th 2021 the two were at a local bar then left the area to their home on the way the suspect assaulted the victim with a plastic whip saying she refused to go home and continued to assault her even at home.
Additionally, the suspect said that he found the victim dead when he woke up in the morning. The police found the pieces of the plastic whip and the police are still investigating the matter while the suspect is waiting to appear before the magistrate.
