…as man assaults wife for five hours till she dies

It seems the protracted route towards eradicating Gender Based Violence from the society is not anywhere close to finish as more cases of violence continue to come out. This after a 33-year old man from TÅ¡ieng, Thaba-Tseka mercilessly murdered his wife on the night of November 25 for a suspected extra-marital affair.

Police reports indicate that the suspect who is in police custody assaulted his 24-year-old wife with a whip for about five hours until he immortalized her before fleeing.

Police Spokesperson Senior Superintended Mpiti Mopeli said that the altercation erupted from an unanswered phone call on the wife’s phone which made the man suspicious that the wife could be embroiled in a love affair with another man this he grabbed the phone off the woman, called back the number and when it was a man who answered on the other end, he started assaulting her.

“The suspect assaulted the victim with a plastic whip at around 22:00hours until 03:00hours when he noticed that his wife passed away. The suspect informed the local government councilor then fled away,” Mopeli said.

“The suspect handed himself to the police on November 28, 2021, after fleeing. Meanwhile, another man Seipati Beleme who is friend to the suspect is suspected to have stabbed his wife to death on the first day of this year suspecting her of being lose for especially taking care of herself and using make-up,” he said.
