Police officer arrested for robbery

Two men, Sello Mpatlise, 39, of Mohale’s Hoek Taung Ha Khit’sane and a member of the Lesotho Mounted Police working at Lithotheng station in Maseru, and 32-year-old Lekanyane Lefu of Maqhaka in the district of Berea who is currently residing at Ha Tsolo, appeared before the Magistrate’s Court of Maseru on 2 February 2021 accused of robbery. They are awaiting trial in custody and will appear again in court on 18 February 2021.

Police reports indicate that on 26 January, the duo attacked a 53-year-old businessman of Pakistan descent at Mahlabatheng. The accused were wearing reflectors normally worn by members of the police at roadblocks.

According to Sub Inspector ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka of the police public relations office, there were initially three of them but the third suspect fled the scene with a car (Hondafit D029BBF) when he realized that his partners were being chased by the community members. The car is still with the police because it was found abandoned at Ha Motšoeneng.

Man rapes toddler

29-year-old Motšei Moiketsi appeared before the Magistrate court of Maseru on 2 February 2021 accused of raping a 4-year-old girl. He is awaiting trial in custody and will appear again in court on 17 February 2021.

It is reported that on 26January the man met the victim with other kids from playing and that is when he instructed other kids to go home with his cattle and he remained with the victim and raped her.

One of the community members noticed the incident and immediately called other community members who caught the suspect and handed him over to the police. He was admitted at St Joseph Hospital because the community had assaulted him.

20 years boy murdered

Three men, aged 33, 29 and 28 years from Ha Makoae were arrested by police on 31January 2021 accused of murder. The trio is said to have kidnapped two other men aged 20 and 21 accusing them of stealing their goats. The duo was then kept in a herd post (motebo) for days where they were subjected to inhuman treatment and assault until the 20-year-old died. It is further reported that when he died, the men reported him missing but the matter was reported to the police and they were arrested. The suspects took the police to the scene of crime commission where inter alia goat skins of goats believed to have been fed to the dogs were found. The accused will appear in court on 9 February 2021.

Security Guards accused for murder

Three men Quthing Sebapala, Matsieng and Mokhotlong aged 24, 28 and 28 respectively, who work as security guards at a Lebakeng hospital are in police custody charged with the murder of a 45-year-old whom they accused of stealing hospital peaches. According to Mofoka, the guards had been alerted of a man seen jumping the hospital fence by nursing staff to which they found and assaulted the deceased to death. ffffffff fff
