Two men, Refiloe Moeketse aged 20 who is also a former employee of EZ Hardware from Upper-Thamae and Pekosela Qenehelo aged 23 from Roma Ha-Maama were released on M500.00 bail each by the Maseru Magistrate Court for fraud after they were arrested by the police while attempting to rob EZ Hardware at Borokhoaneng off building material worth almost M40 000 using a forged cash receipt.

They were arrested while loading the materials after the workers of the hardware realised that the said had not been paid hence the receipt could be forged thus raising alarm with the police who soon came and arrested the suspects in whose possession they also found a desktop computer, printer, keyboard and blank cash slips belonging to EZ Hardware which were confiscated to be presented as evidence.

Semonkong

A 14-year-old boy is in police custody charged with the attempted murder of another who is a fellow villager aged 11 from Ha-Lepai whom he allegedly shot with a 9mm firearm belonging to his employer. The victim was rushed to hospital at the Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital, while the suspect whose police records reveal him being involved in a number of other crimes, was taken into police custody. 

Thaba-Bosiu

Mokone Mperiane aged 49 from Thaba-Khupa in Thaba-Bosiu was remanded in police custody after he appeared before the Maseru Magistrate Court on July 20, 2022 accused of the murder of the area chief Sechaba Pekosela Maanela aged 31 of Mahaheng, whose corpse was found strewn by the side of the road on July 17, 2022. The following day the suspect is said to have handed himself to the police along with the murder weapon which is said to be a butcher knife.

Police investigations found that the cause of the incident is that, the area chief once hit the accused’s child and failed to fulfil a magistrate’s court order that he compensates the suspect which was when the suspect had decided to take the law into own hands.

He will appear again in court on August 2, 2022.

Mafeteng

Khashane Mosotho Chabeli, 18, from Sefasi Taung in the MOhale’ Hoek district was remanded in custody after appearing before the Mafeteng Magistrate Court on July 22, 20222 and he will appear before the Magistrate Court on August 4, 2022 for the murder and attempted murder of two Chinese nationals.

Police reports indicate that the suspect who was in the company of another man, way-laid the business owners and approached them disguised as desperate customers, and proceeded to shoot them injuring, one who was hospitalised and killing the order who was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Butha-Buhe

A 33-year-old man of Ha-Moetsuoa, Solane named Khotlalome Mohanoe was sentenced to 14-years’ imprisonment or pay a fine of M 30 000 (which he failed to pay) by the Butha-Buthe Magistrate Court after he was found guilty stock theft.

Police reports indicate that he was arrested on July 24, 2022 following a police tip-off about 64 sheep that were stolen from a farm in Foriesburg, a border town on the South African side, and crossed over to the Lesotho side by the suspect in the company of two other men who had fled when the police arrived.

Still in Butha-Buthe, Thipe Matsoso from Ha-Mallane was sentenced to five-years’ imprisonment or pay a fine of M5 000 (which he paid) after he was found guilty of illegal possession of a 9milimitre gun with four rounds of ammunition by the Butha-Buthe Magistrate Court on July 25, 2022 accused.

Thaba-Tseka

Litsebeng Khetla, 29, from Bobete Keneng was released on M 200 bail by the Magistrate Court on July 19, 2022 accused of making murder threats to another woman whom she accused of being entangled in a love triangle with her boyfriend. She will appear again before the Magistrate Court on August 2, 2022.
