Lesotho international and Linare defender Rethabile RasethuntÅ¡a is set to return to the South African Dstv Premiership side, Swallows FC for a second attempt at impressing the Soweto-based side at trials.

The Dube Birds as Swallows FC is affectionately known, had previously invited RasethuntÅ¡a for trials but his much-anticipated move did not materialize.

The left footed center-back was on trials with Swallows about three weeks from October to September 2021 but he failed to impress the technical team.

The news was confirmed by the Linare General-Manager, Moeketsi Rampai to Newsday Sport this week.

In the letter of request received by Swallows management, Rampai said compared to last year, this time it looks very promising for the defender to secure a move to the Dube Birds.

“This week we received a letter of request from Swallows FC in South Africa for the availability of Rasethuntša to be assessed by their technical team.

“Unlike the last time where they called him but the move never materialized, we are very confident that this time around things are to be different,” said Rampai.

According to Rampai, the management of Swallows was impressed with the defender and wanted to sign him but the then coach, Brendon Truter was not interested.

Swallows has since parted ways with Truter and his entire backroom staff after in November 2021 after struggling to garner any form in the current 2021/22 season. At the time they had only tasted victory once in 12 matches in the league.

The team then appointed former Black Leopards coach Dylan Kerr as their new head coach with hopes that the Englishman can salvage their performance in the current season. Swallows is two spots from relegation having won two matches from 18 played, drew eight and lost eight.

Rampai said they are not worried about the gap to be left by Rasethuntša because they had planned ahead by securing the services of Qalo Matlapaneng when the player was set to leave Linare last year. “We are aware that there is no transfer window and luckily the move for Rasethuntša to Swallows FC will not impact us badly because we had already secured the services of former CCx defender Qalo Matlapaneng as a replacement,” Rampai said.
