As a result of the resent protests that broke out in parts of South Africa, petroleum company Puma Energy Lesotho has indicated that there is a threat of fuel supply in the country as a result.

In a statement issued on Wednesday the company informed all its customers of supply constraints experienced due to the widespread of riots and protests across South Africa.

“All our suppliers as well as our Richards Bay terminal have stopped supply and transporters have grounded their vehicles,” part of the statement said.

This comes as a result birthed by the on-going riots and lootings that broke out in the neighbouring South Africa in the last few days since last week, Wednesday July 7 when the former South African President Jacob Zuma, handed himself over to the police. He is to serve 15 months’ prison sentence for contempt of court for refusing to appear before the Zondo Commission of enquiry.

The jailing of Zuma has since led to a wide spread of protests across Kwazulu Natal and Gauteng province which has disrupted the food and supply chain due to the looting of shops and malls together with the burning of delivery trucks.

The statement from the Southern African Energy giant further said that the public will be updated on the status of the supply.

“We will keep you updated on the status of the supply and delivery constraints and wish to assure you that we will work with our supply teams to take all possible steps to limit the disruptions and impacts on business,” reads the statement.

There has already been reports of some of the filling stations in the country running out of fuel on Wednesday afternoon.

The inner most parts of South Africa and other countries such as Lesotho and eSwatini depend on the supply of fuel from the harbour along the coast of Kwazulu Natal.
