Lioli Football Club President Lebohang Thotanyana has been elected Chairman of the Chairmen’s forum for Premier League Management Committee (PLMC).
The 16 premier league clubs’ presidents and chairmen convened to elect the forum’s chairman last week Thursday at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.
Thotanyana said he was honoured and humbled by the opportunity to take part in the Lesotho Football constitution amendment which is another task of the committee.
“I am humbled for this opportunity to serve the football fraternity, this is an honour to be elected in this position,” Thotanyana said.
“The plan is to develop our football and make a constitution that will assist us to create a professional football in the country as this is the forum of the football club’s presidents and the main duty is to lead the way so we hope and look forward to working together with the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) which has its president Advocate Salemane Phafane (KC) as part of the committee,” he said.
Thotanyana’s election follows the departure of Baba Malephane who has since assumed the role of the PLMC Deputy Chairperson.
He said the football fraternity deserves the leadership that will protect football in the current health conditions. He said from the meetings, they discussed several areas that need a detailed focus, including how to safely resume football and make the brand relevant.
“We have to start by formulating a strategy of how safely we can assist LeFA in the return of football as well as protecting our brand which is football,” he said.
The forum is overseen by the president and the Chief Executive Officer of the country’s football governing body, LeFA.
Thotanyana said they will meet again in two weeks, among other things they have already asked LeFA and the National Covid-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) to review some of the rules and regulations like regular testing to ease their return to football.
According to the rules and regulations of premier and A-division leagues, the forum is made up of all premier league clubs’ bosses and its objective is to foster relations between elite league clubs, explore new development projects and being the watchdog of the league.
