Wave Rhyder living the dream

Business

He recently broke the internet with the release of his latest single ‘Ntho tsa mojolo’ (Ghanama Sesotho version) alongside Ntate Stunna, and has now made it big landing a deal with one of South Africa’s biggest record labels Ambitious Entertainment. This is Thato Molupe, a Morija-born artiste known by his stage moniker Wave Rhyder, who feels he is living his dream.

The artist who started making and recording music in 2013 told this publication that he was heavily inspired by his family.

“I’ve loved singing since I was a little boy. Both my parents are singers so they influenced me a lot in this path,” Wave Rhyder said.

The 21-year-old singer’s vision has always been to inspire people while doing something he loves.

“The dream has always been to inspire other people through my music from when I started. I believe in making people happy and healing them through music. For me, music is a calling that I am grateful for and always want to use it to inspire others” he said.

He pointed out that although he may be in the way to living the life of his dreams, his musical journey has not always been a smooth sailing, as he recounts that, like any success-story, he has also had moments when he felt like just giving-up.

“Sometimes you’d think things are slow for you and even think of quitting which I did too. I have, however, always had the desire to make it in spite of all the challenges faced. There have been moments when I know I have survived because of always trusting in God. I have always involved Him in everything I did” Wave Rhyder said.

He has become the second artist to from the Mountain Kingdom to be signed under Ambitious Entertainment; this after the label scooped the signature of Malome Vector in 2019.

The Sefika High School alumnus said it is truly an honour for him to be working with one of the biggest music brands on the African continent, a feat which will surely give him a global exposure and grow him musically.

“It feels like a dream come true to be signed under one of the biggest record labels not only in SA but the whole of Africa.  I’m so excited about it, as it is something I have always wanted, hence, I’d always tag them when I had new work out so they’d hear my stuff” he reminisces.

Wave Rhyder has already released a single at his new home titled Pula. The song received mixed emotions from his fans and people in general because of the genre. It is an amapiano song and he was announced as the first artist singing the genre under the label.

The artist mentioned that to do amapiano was his decision in agreement with the label saying he wanted to be different and that the genre is big currently.

“The change in genre was my decision. I want to be different and I want to be remembered for making different moves. Being the first amapiano artist ever to be signed under ambitious, feels great.

“I am going to focus more on this genre but still I might drop on other genres” said the versatile muso.

He said his fans and people can expect more great hits from him even in this genre.

Ambitiouz Entertainment as a stable was founded in 2015 and in six years the label has had notable industry heavyweights such as Emtee, Sjava, Amanda Black, Fifi Cooper who have since left the stable. Currently, it is also home to Miss Pru, Blaq Diamond, Kid Tini and Intaba yaseDubai.
