Lesotho Volleyball Association President Mpho Palime was elected Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) FIVB Gender Minority member, following elections which were held from 25th to 26th October 2020 through zoom video conference.

As per CAVB constitution, 12 other members were duly elected.

Palime was elected in the newly elected board alongside Zambia Volleyball Association President Agnes Nakaonga Mwengwe Kakoma.

She thanked her domestic association that supported her in the quest to run for elections.

“I thank my fellow executive committee members at LVA and believe this opportunity will help both Lesotho and Africa at large to develop,” Palime said.

In her last year of the four year term as LVA president, Palime said she is well aware of the challenges that have been brought by Covid-19 and she is going to do her best to help rebuild the sport.

“Covid-19 took away our entire season as the outbreak in Africa happened just as we were about to start our season. So many challenges we faced this year especially women in the sport so I am aiming to help balance the scale while things are returning under the new normal,” she said.

Palime is not the first LVA member to be elected into the CAVB Board, the former president William Nhlapho was also elected as the Vice President in 2015.

Other newly elected members are the president of CAVB Bourha Hajij from Morocco, the Vice President Adnan Bakbak from Libya representing Zone 1, Zone II represented by Rodrigues Antonio Carlos of Cape Verde, Casimir Sawadogo of Burkina Faso represents Zone III, Zone IV is represented by Dokony Adiker Idriss from Chad, from Zone V Waithaka Kioni of Kenya and lastly representing Zone VI is Fredreck Ndlovu from Zimbabwe.

Members are Habu Gumel of Nigeria, Sanga Issouf Kone of Côte d’Ivoire, while Daniel Koboa Molaodi is from Botswana. Meanwhile, the LVA anticipates a mini tournament before the end of the year since there has been no action at all this year in volleyball due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
